Maljakko 180mm kirkas 1937

iittala

Design pioneer Alvar Aalto drew his inspiration from nature when creating his legendary waves. The Aalto vase is a classic of Nordic design, which is made individually by mouth blowing. After that, it is cut from the glass mass by hand and ground into its final shape at the Iittala glass factory in Finland.

When the Aalto vases were first designed in 1936, due to the high iron content of the sand used in glassmaking, the clear glass typical of the time was pale greenish. That’s why this beautiful greenish shade is called bright 1937. The 180mm vase is based on Aalto’s original sketches from the 1930s, but is smaller than the prototype in terms of size, which makes it perfect for a single flower or a small seasonal bouquet.
